Smiling in the Spring

Crocuses, a sure sign of Spring.

Spring is my favourite season of the year.

It is getting warmer; the days are longer and things are budding and growing. Trees, flowers, bushes are coming to life again, the birds are chirping and there is a feeling of everything waking up and emerging after hibernating. The one drawback of course is that allergies resurface and this year they also have awakened early.

We have all had a difficult two years; as I write we are marking 2 years since the WHO declared the start of the pandemic. Over 400 million people all over the world got sick with COVID and more than 6 million have died. Many will have long COVID and symptoms from their illness for years.

We all hunkered down, hid behind masks and some of us forgot to smile.

These two years have also provided us the opportunity to learn about ourselves and our fellow human beings. We learned what it is like to come together to take care of and protect ourselves and our communities. We followed health care guidelines and orders and we appreciated those on the front lines taking care of the rest of us. We reconnected with family and friends in faraway places through technology and many of us attended life events virtually that we might not have otherwise.

Unfortunately, we also experienced some dark times. It sometimes felt like we were on a rollercoaster going up and down as things opened and then closed again, with restrictions lifted and then reimposed. Humans being who we are experienced all kinds of emotions which unfortunately also included anger and taking out the anger on others with threats and sometimes violence.

As we slowly emerge from these times, let us all remember to learn to smile again, to breathe and to take care of ourselves. Learn how to take care of yourself by attending one of our classes or come and see me for a private session to learn more deeply about yourself and your habits.
