We live in interesting times

Life is changing daily. The global pandemic has changed our lives, likely permanently.

This week I moved to teaching on Zoom. So far response has been positive. It is a win-win for all. I can continue to do what I love doing which is teaching classes. Students can continue to boost their well-being through mindful movement, and we all heed the directive to stay socially distant.

For the foreseeable future, classes will be via ZOOM only. See our class page for more information.

In times like these when life as we know it has changed it is even more important to take time and space to ground ourselves and relieve tension and stress from our bodies.

Life feels very surreal now, almost like we are living in a science fiction movie.

How will each of us navigate these rough waters?

Some Feldenkrais principles can guide us.

Examine our habitsWhich of our usual responses are useful and which can we think about altering? Some anxiety is helpful as it keeps us vigilant. Panic, on the other hand is usually less useful.  When we panic our body tightens up, our breathing is more laboured, and our movements less functional. Instead, we need to be vigilant, open to new advice and prepared for the future, as unknown as it is.

Do a little at a time. Gather as much information at one time that you are comfortable dealing with. Read or listen to reputable sources. Fact check when you are not sure. When you are ready for more, get more.

Ask questions.  Talk to your family, friends and colleagues. Ask your health care provider or call 811. Do not go to an ER or a clinic unless they tell you to.

Be patient. Health professionals and the 811 Call Centre are busy. Be patient and breathe as you wait in line.
